We own the cars. We employ the drivers.
That sounds like a small thing until something goes wrong. Most “fleets” in Lagos are a phone number and a network of other people’s vehicles, which works right up until the morning nobody answers.
Peejay Mobility operates a vehicle hire fleet out of Lagos. The business does four things: chauffeur-driven day hire, self-drive rental, fixed-price airport transfers, and longer corporate contracts. Everything else we are asked for, we say no to, or we tell you honestly that we would be hiring it in.
The operating model is deliberately unglamorous. Vehicles are serviced on schedule rather than on failure. Drivers are direct employees with verified licences and guarantors on file, not contractors introduced the night before. Rates are published on this site rather than quoted differently depending on how the caller sounds.
None of that is remarkable. It is simply what a customer is entitled to assume they are buying, and the reason we write it down is that in this market it cannot be assumed.
