Terms of hire

Applies to all vehicle hire from Peejay Mobility Rentals.

1. These terms

These terms govern vehicle hire from Peejay Mobility Rentals ("we", "us"). By confirming a booking you accept them. Where a signed contract exists for corporate or long-term hire, that contract takes precedence over anything on this page.

2. Bookings and confirmation

A request made through this website is not a booking. A booking exists only once we have confirmed a specific vehicle and date to you in writing and quoted a price.

Quoted rates hold for the dates quoted. Rates published on this website are indicative and are confirmed at the point of booking.

3. Charges and what a day covers

On chauffeur-driven hire, a day rate covers twelve hours from the agreed pick-up time. On self-drive hire, a day rate covers a full twenty-four hours from collection. Additional hours are charged at the hourly rate stated in your confirmation.

Chauffeur-driven hire includes 30 litres of fuel per day. Fuel used beyond that allowance is charged at pump price and itemised on your invoice.

Self-drive vehicles are handed over with the fuel level recorded on the hire agreement and must be returned at that same level. Any shortfall is charged at pump price plus a refuelling fee.

Tolls, parking and driver overnight allowances are charged in addition and are itemised on your invoice.

4. Use outside Lagos State

Vehicles are hired for use within Lagos State. Taking a vehicle outside Lagos State requires our written agreement in advance, obtained before the vehicle leaves.

Removing a vehicle from Lagos State without prior notice is a breach of this agreement and attracts a penalty charge, which is set out in your hire agreement and is in addition to any fuel supplement, mileage and overnight allowance that would have applied had the trip been agreed.

It also places the vehicle outside the terms on which it is insured. Where a vehicle is damaged, lost or involved in an incident outside Lagos State without prior agreement, the insurer may decline the claim and you become liable for the full value of the vehicle. This is the substantive reason for the requirement; the penalty is secondary.

Prior agreement is not unreasonably withheld. Tell us the destination when you book and it is ordinarily approved and quoted.

5. Self-drive hire

Self-drive hire requires a valid Nigerian driver's licence held for at least three years, two forms of photo identification, proof of address and a refundable security deposit.

Only drivers named on the hire agreement may drive the vehicle. Permitting an unnamed person to drive voids the insurance and makes you liable for the full value of the vehicle.

The vehicle may not be used to carry passengers for hire or reward, to tow, for racing, or for any unlawful purpose.

Traffic infringements, fines and towing charges incurred while the vehicle is in your possession are your responsibility.

6. Deposits

Security deposits are refunded within five working days of the vehicle being returned undamaged, on time and correctly fuelled. Where an outstanding fine or claim exists, we withhold only the amount at issue and release the balance.

7. Insurance

All vehicles carry comprehensive insurance. On self-drive hire an insurance excess applies and is deducted from your deposit in the event of a claim. The excess figure is disclosed before you sign the hire agreement.

Insurance does not cover loss or damage caused by driving under the influence, by an unnamed driver, or by use outside the terms of this agreement.

8. Cancellation

Cancellation more than 24 hours before the agreed pick-up time is free of charge. Cancellation within 24 hours attracts a charge of 50% of the day rate.

If we cancel — for a mechanical failure or any other reason — we will supply a replacement vehicle of the same class where possible, or refund you in full where it is not.

9. Breakdown and replacement

If a vehicle becomes unusable during a hire within Lagos State, we will supply a replacement of the same class. You are not charged for the period during which no vehicle was available to you.

10. Liability

We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, including missed flights, missed appointments or lost business, arising from delay however caused.

Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud.

11. Personal belongings

Items left in a vehicle are held for 30 days where found, and we will make reasonable efforts to return them. We do not accept liability for loss of belongings left in a vehicle.

12. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and the courts of Lagos State have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising from them.
